You control the lines from Katowice Szopienice and Sosnowiec Dandowka to Myslowice Railway Station. Both of these are serviced by PKT (Silesian Trams) Katowice (line 14-Katowice Bogucice Depot, line 26-Bedzin Depot). You are in control for part of a spring Monday. The tram-loop in Myslowice has two stands for passenger services (DW) and one holding stand (BP). The 14 line begins at Alfred's Square in Katowice-Welnowiec. Next it goes to Spodek Concert Hall, Old Market-Place, Bogucice Depot and finally to Myslowice Railway Station. There is a tram service every 20 minutes. This line is serviced by 6 twin-car trams of type 105 Na (trams 14/1 to 14/6). The 26 line begins in Milowice, Sosnowiec. Then trams go to the city, Dandowka's Triangle and at last also to Myslowice Railway Station. There is a tram service every 16 (peak hours) or 32 minutes. This line is serviced by 6 twin-car trams also of type 105 Na (trams 26/1 to 26/6). There was a tram service every 16 minutes all day, five years ago, but it isn't profitable now. You have to direct all the trams in and out, selecting the correct route and planning use of the single-track sections to avoid delays and minimise congestion. 2 The track layout The simulation of line 26 starts in Dandowka Triangle, Sosnowiec. There is a junction with line 27 (see also programs "Sosnowiec Kazimierz"). For a departing tram, move to DT; arriving trams come from DP. Dandowka Triangle (DA) is the last tram stop on a doubletrack line. The passing siding at Dandowka Settlement (DO) is three minutes from here. The next passing siding (Niwka Coal Mine - NK) is 2 minutes from DO. Then the tram (in 5 minutes) goes to Modrzejow Pastewna (MP). Then double track begins. The line ends at Myslowice Railway Station on a big tram loop (DW). There is between NK and MP a rail crossing. If there is a train in any while, the tram stops. On the screen the train is shown as ' # '. The simulation of line 14 starts in Katowice Szopienice after the tram loop (lines 20 and 23) in Szopienice Court (see also programs "Katowice Szopienice"). For a departing tram, move to ST; arriving trams come from SP. Szopienice Chemiczna (SC) is the last tram stop on a double track line. The passing siding at Myslowice St. Cross Church (KS) is six minutes from here. Then the tram (in 4 minutes) goes to the big tram loop in Myslowice (DW). Before returning, the tram goes to the holding stand at BP. Departures on this line are from the tram stop at Myslowice Post-Office (PT). Movements are made by pressing the space bar. You will then be prompted to enter first the location to move from and then a two-character movement code, which is usually the label given to the destination section on the screen. In a critical situation you may couple two trams on line14, but only if they're going the same way. You can couple two trams using the movement code CP for trams to DW and CT for trams to ST. To uncouple one tram from the second, use the movement code UP for trams to DW or UT for trams to ST. Coupled trams can be on the line between SC and KS only. There are technical workings between SC and KS on a tram line. If workers are on tracks in any while, the tram must wait. On screen this situation is shown as ' ! '. 3 Servicing of trams Both of these lines are serviced by PKT (Silesian Trams) Katowice, line 14 at Katowice Bogucice Depot and line 26 at Bedzin Depot. Lines are served by Polish tram cars produced by Konstal Chorzow in years 1975-87. Each tram consists of two cars of type 105 Na with 20 seats. Each tram is single-ended and has to turn in a tram loop. The direction of tramcars is indicated by the signs < and > on the tram codes. 4 Scoring During the shift you can lose points; among the reasons are the following: - starting a departing tram (from DW for line 26 or PT for line 14) late or early, - starting a departing tram (from DP for line 26 or SP for line 14) late, - starting a departing tram (to DT for line 26 or ST for line 14) late. Bonus points are gainted in the following situations: - starting a departing tram (from DW for line 26 or PT for line 14) on time (2 points), - starting a departing tram (to DT for line 26 or ST for line 14) on time (1 point). 5 Getting started This program name is MS93. The simulation begins at 4.25 am. Three minutes later there is the first tram on line 14 (14/3) at SP. A little later the first tram on line 26 appears at DP. After each minute of the simulation the screen will be updated. If you want to make a move, press the space bar, enter the position code and finally enter the movement code. If at any time you decide not to make a move after having begun this sequence, just press Enter. If you want to stop the game before the end (which is at 23.58), just press Q. 6 The screen display The main screen display shows a schematic view of the simulated area. In addition the next arrivals (at SP and DP) and the next few departures (from DW and PT) are shown. If the track occupancy changes, the colour of the line on the display changes too. If the line is empty the colour is yellow, if it isn't, the colour is red. As the time for a departure approaches, its colour on the display changes. When there is one (line 26) or three (line 14) minutes to go, the departure time turns yellow. Overdue departures are shown in red. Good luck !
